Stone Marine Propulsions history of propeller manufacture can be traced back to Josiah Stone in the 1830’s. The Company has designed and supplied numerous propellers for all ship types and sizes including many famous vessels. Whatever your requirement, SMP, the propeller specialist, can meet them.
The NPT propeller is proving itself to be a money saver for owners of vessels who are fitting slow revving engines or who are adopting slow steaming with a derated engine as an economy measure. Apart from also being lighter than a conventional propeller the NPT has other benefits, not the least of which is that it often costs less money. The largest diameter supplied so far is a 4 bladed 10.5m NPT for a very large tanker; many 4 and 5 bladed NPTs of up to 9m diameter have been successfully retrofitted to container ships that have been re-optimised for slow steaming. You can read much more about it here.
One of a pair of handed propellers supplied to the UK Ministry of Defence for the twin screw Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment Tankers “Fort George” and “Fort Victoria”. These propellers, which have a very complex geometry, were designed by DERA, Haslar.
One of a series of high powered propellers designed and manufactured by SMP for A. P. Moller. These 6 bladed 9000 mm diameter units, with a blade area ratio of 95%, are designed to absorb 55MW and weigh 86,000 kgs in SMP Nikalium alloy.
